Team Buhara Board of Directors

Edward Magezi - Director

Team Buhara Board of Directors Meeting

Edward often declares “it’s my pride to see other people happy” and, indeed, this is the spirit which drives his work. Edward is the first member of his village to attend university, and one of the few to complete secondary schooling. He did not manage these incredible feats alone, however; his family sacrificed and others, from Uganda and the UK, helped him to reach his educational goals.

The beneficiary of sponsorship himself, Edward decided in 2007 to offer the same opportunities to children from his village who were not attending school. Hoping to inspire parents through his example, he began caring for children with no home, and offering school fees from his own meager earnings to families who were not able to meet educational expenses. He partnered with local parents and leaders in the community to develop a strategy for Child Care. Now, he is working in partnership with seventeen parents to lift his community. Individual families and institutional change are the cornerstones of the Team Buhara work. The organization members call him their ‘good shepherd’, and, indeed, one can hardly dispute the accuracy of such a name.

Asaaba Besweri Apooli - Assistant Director

Edward’s father, Asaaba has served as an inspiration and consultant since the organization’s inception. A beekeeper and farmer, Asaaba works for NAADS, a government initiative which trains individuals in improved agricultural techniques. He is also the founder and director of the Kahondo Beekeeper’s Association, a community based organization committed to eradicating poverty through apiaries. He assists in the legal and managerial components of Team Buhara.

Augustine Abwooli - Chairperson

The priest of the Episcopal church in Buhara Village, Augustine was left a single father to his daughter Molly when his wife passed away due to AIDS. Concerned for his child’s future, he collaborated with other founding members to pool resources and advocate for village children. Today, Augustine continues to spearhead efforts at the church, work toward his own health in the face of this terrible disease, and coordinate the HIV/AIDS outreach initiative in the village. He chairs all Team Buhara meetings, and is responsible for the successful implementation of Team Buhara initiatives.

Clovis Amooti and Family

Clovis Amooti - Vice Chairperson

The father of nine children, including Team Buhara member Solomon (12), Clovis and his wife are farmers, raising chickens, goats, bananas and potatoes to sell at market. Committed to education, Clovis is a founding member of Team Buhara and serves as an invaluable administrative support in all Team Buhara program areas. Specifically, Clovis runs the Adult Literacy outreach and is a member of the Finance Committee.

Keven Amooti

A school teacher and mother of Kiiza (7), Kevin is one of the few literate women of Buhara Village. Recruited to the organization due to her literacy skills and commitment to the success of her community, Kevin serves as the Secretary of Team Buhara. She is responsible for maintaining records and minutes, collating receipts, and informing all members of meetings. She has a lively voice and serves as a role model to mothers and fathers alike in Buhara Village.
